In March 2022, after years of delays due to budgetary issues, the construction of the first F-110 frigate began at Navantia’s factory in Ferrol (La Coruña), which, together with its four sisters, will serve to renew the Spanish Navy’s essential escort vessel capacity.
With a length of 145 meters, a beam of 18 meters and a displacement of 6,000 tons, the frigate has been designed to act as a multipurpose escort vessel, although it stands out for its anti-submarine capabilities.
This new ship shines out for its technological component. Navantia will deliver to the Navy an intelligent and hypersensitive frigate, equipped with a digital twin, one of the major innovations of the program.
Fluidmecánica will supply five electric winches for at-sea provisioning for each of the five F-110 frigates.
The equipment, which will be supplied together with its starter box, permission pedal and portable console, has been designed in accordance with the requirements defined by Navantia and will be approved and certified by Bureau Veritas.
