The Vigo-based shipyard Cardama is carrying out modernization works on the oceanographic vessel MÁRIO RUIVO, owned by the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere.

This modernization includes scientific technology, acoustic and last generation marine positioning.

Fluidmecánica has designed and manufactured the following oceanographic winches:

• Electrically driven sonar winch, with a capacity of 2000 m of cable, Ø11.43 mm.

• Coaxial cable storage drum, with a capacity of 700 m of cable, Ø21.6 mm ;
• Winch for hoisting/lowering Vibrocorer, with a capacity of 1000 m of cable, Ø16 mm. It includes pulleys fitted with load cells and an encoder to provide readings of pull, distance and speed.

The vessel remains the cornerstone of the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and the Atmosphere for major international and multidisciplinary monitoring campaigns in the Atlantic.
